I saw things like “The Simpsons”, “Family Guy”, the News “Sponge Bob”, sports… I didn´t see so much TV.

Archivado en: Hallowen, Photos — victorgarciabalcaza @ 17:21

The Sunday 20Th all the Spanish and our hosts went to a Halloween´s party, it wasn´t Halloween but we had a good time. We went dressed up with costumes, there were some interesting costumes like an angel, an old woman, a hockey player, a person sleeping, I was dressed up like a scarecrow…

We were dancing, eating and having fun at the party and then we went out and we empty and decorate the pumpkins we have bought… It was funny. The winner pumpkin was the Jorge´s pumpkin, and he won a sweater.

Then we continued dancing and having a great time. It wasn´t the real Halloween but it was wonderful and they explain us some things about that american´s party.

Sports on TV

Archivado en: TV — victorgarciabalcaza @ 14:43

They have got lots of sports channels on the American TV, they’ve got a channel for the NHL (National Hockey League), other for the NBA (National Basket League), also for Baseball… But the most amazing was the American football, not only for the NFL (National Football League), because there are some channels for the college league, I didn’t know that the football college league was so popular but there is, the stadiums are empty and you can see all the matches on TV.

One of all our days in the Milford High School we went all the day to Spanish classes, I think  that it was for give help to the students, in all classes they make us an interview of things our like and for our life in Spain, like: What sports do you like? What is your favorite meal? What time do you start and leave the school? What do you think about  the USA? …

Of course they asked us in Spanish and we answer in English, so both practice something. We done the same interview in two consecutive classes and on third the teacher make a new interview because we were bored for listening always the same.

Halloween decoration

Here, all of them are excited with Halloween, almost all the houses have got some adornments but others have got lots of pumpkins, ghosts and spiders in their gardens.

Like is popular to dress up on that party, all the shops have got lots of costumes and other hallowen’s things. And all the people is buying things to celebrate that party.

Also is popular to put spider’s web on the windows, it looks very scaring, I would like to be in Halloween (31th October) to see all the typical things of that party. They told me that Halloween is one of the most popular party of America, maybe the second (after Christmas, of course)

Bye, have a good time, and don’t be afraid of Halloween!!

This Sunday and Monday we have been in New York, that was the great experience of our travel in the USA.

At first we went to Rockefeller Center and we saw some interesting shops like the NBC and the NBA store, that is amazing, it have got all the NBA things that you can image. We also went to a “shop” in the street to buy some “I love NY” T-shirts.

By the afternoon we went by a tour , we saw the Dakota building, the mosaic of Imagine, dedicated to John Lennon (it is amazing), then we went to see the Empire State building and the “Flatiron” building and last we went to see the ground zero, the guide told us the story of the terrorist attack, he also said that now they are building a new tower on the ground zone, it is going to be very big and is going to call “Liberty Tower”.

After the tour we went to our hotel to leave the bags on the rooms and at six o’clock we went too see the Mary Poppins musical, it was good because they sang well and on live, but it was so long and hard. Then we went shopping by Time Square, I love it because there are lots of publicity screens, and there are lots of shops like Quiksilver, Billabong, Foot Locker, Hard Rock, but the best shop was the m&m’s store there were all kind of things like T-shirts, sweaters, bags, jackets, toys and of course sweets. They had gota very big statues of an m&m dressed like the Liberty Statue.

The next morning we went to see the Liberty Statue, went to the island by boat, it was good but I thought it was bigger, by the afternoon we went to the MOMA (Museum Of Modern Art) first we try to draw a picture of Picasso and then we saw pictures by our account, we saw pictures of Picasso, Monet, Andy Warhol…

Then we went back from Milford, I am impresionated with New York. But we have been so few time to see that very big city.

Last Wednesday we went to see a basketball friendly match between the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks on the Boston Celtics’ stadium.

At first, when we came into the stadium it looks like a shopping centre, there were lot of people walk

ing by there, there were some official shops of the Boston Celtics (with T-shirts, caps, jackets, flags…) and lots of places for eat like Mac Donald’s, Dunkin Donuts, some places who sell pop corns, hot dogs or pizzas.

To came to our seats we get up by a mechanical stairs and on that floor there were more clothes shops and places with food. It have got lot of security, because there were many security guards and you can’t introduce bags on the stadium.

The stadium is amazing, there are lots of seats, of course the Wednesday it wasn’t full because it was a friendly match, but it doesn’t matter. Up the court there were four huge screens (To be able to see it from all the angles) it was focusing the players closely and of also put repetitions of some plays. Up the screens there were the names of the players who are in the court, their score, assistance, personal lacks…

Beside that on the rests there were Cheerleaders dancing, a man dressed like the team’s emblem who did amazing mates, with turns and somersaults. And also they record at random people of the stand, and they recorded us by a few seconds.

The match wasn’t very exciting because it wasn’t for league and we won by 40 points of difference but it was worth seeing because the stadium is amazing.

Newport

Archivado en: Extra — victorgarciabalcaza @ 18:24

Last Tuesday we went to visit Newport, a Rhode Island’s town who have got  beautiful beaches and very big and expensive houses and mansions. We went to visit two famous mansions:

Breaker’s: is huge, everything is decorated with Gold of 22 carats and marble. I was impersonated with the phones, they’ve got one by room to communicate between them.

Rosecliff: That mansion is more like a museum because they allowed you to see some rooms by your own way. Rosecliff have got a huge garden with an excellent view to the sea.

By the afternoon we went shopping by the center of the town, it was beautiful and I had a good time spending my day in Newport.
